December
In Texas, a jury granted $105 million to the family of a man who lost his life tragically when his vehicle was rear-ended by an 18-wheeler. All Points 360, owner of the truck, was contracted through Amazon’s Middle Mile Delivery Service Partner Program. A heavy machine operator, Gustavo Lopez, Sr. was driving his Ford F-250 truck when he was struck at approximately 65 miles per hour in rainy conditions resulting in his death in October 2018. The driver of the 18-wheeler was not licensed, trained nor had a background check prior to the accident conducted. The total award comprises $42 million in compensatory damages and $63 million in punitive damages, marking it as one of the most substantial wrongful death verdicts in recent Texas history.
